Oh the relief of finding a summer job

So, the last few summers I have tried very unsuccessfully to get a job. Kind of frustrating, but I know that God had other plans for me. I met so many people and had so many experiences I wouldn't have otherwise. But thankfully, I already can say that I am not going to be jobless this summer....because I'm an EFY COUNSELOR!!!!! :) :) I have wanted this job ever since I went to my first session as a little 14 year-old. I'm SO excited!!!!

I have to say though, it has been very humbling to think about this job. I am going to be teaching the youth and will be an example to them. It makes me look at my life; am I doing the things that I should be? I'm so greatful to know that we have a Father in Heaven who will help shape me to become more the person who the youth can look up to this summer and can come to for questions and support.

Semana tres

Another week down! This week was full of great moments and hard ones as well.

Some of my favorite news for the week: I GOT BIKE SUPPLIES!!! I got my biking shorts (in which I feel TOTALLY weird- spandex all the way I guess. haha), a helmet that semi-matches the color of my swimming cap (now my theme color :) ), biking shoes and pedals. The cool thing about these shoes and pedals is that they clip into each other! That way my legs don't get as tired as fast, and my time will be faster.

I was slightly nervous to try them out because everyone told me that I was going to fall over a few times getting used to the clips because it's hard to get used to clipping in and clipping out at you're stopping. However, knowing me, one fall would probably result in a broken arm and I'd be done with the triathlon. But I haven't fallen yet!

I asked my mom to come on my first bike ride with the new shoes and clips just in case. So on Tuesday we went down the canyon....and about 15 minutes into the ride I realized that I had left my jacket sitting on the couch at home. And let me tell you, that hour-long bike ride ended up being THE COLDEST ride I have ever been on in my life!!!!! It took me about an hour just to return to normal temperature! haha. But it was fun to go with my mom. :)

One of the hard moments came Friday morning at 5:45...time to get up and go swimming. Oh, there was nothing I wanted to do less. I'm still kinda struggling with it, and so let's just say it's not my favorite of the three activities. I did get up and go, but probably only because I couldn't go later that night because I had a date. I'm really hoping my roommate will be able to help me this week, because I really do need it. . .

But happy news, yesterday I ran for 48 minutes straight!!!!!!! I have never ran that long in my life!!! It's so exciting to see my body get more in shape for this race, and see that all of this time is actually doing something.

Next week is the easier week, lightening up the load for my body to take a break I guess. I'm almost at one month! CRAZY! :)

Week 2

Two down, 18 more to go!!! Haha.

This week actually wasn't too hard, it seemed easier than last week which hopefully means I'm actually getting in real shape for this thing!!! :)

Because of school I haven't been able to do any brick days, where I go straight from one event to another without a break. Usually one is in the early morning and the other is in the afternoon or evening. I think I'll be okay though.

Swimming is getting easier, but I still feel like I'm going to drown sometimes, and thankfully, my roommate is going to help me with that this next week. (Thank goodness for roommates who are swimming teachers!!!)

I have discovered that I really can run a whole lot longer and farther outside. I've been going to the BYU indoor track, and it's hard for me to do half an hour in there, probably because I'm running around, literally, in circles. I did my long run yesterday and I just went and went and went. So, unless the weather is terrible, on running days, I'm going to run outside. So please weather, become good again soon so I can run and bike outside everyday!!!! :)

I'm thinking that I need to add some sort of strength training onto my daily workouts, just to become a little stronger. I should probably find a strength training partner, someone who can push me to do more reps of use heavier weights. Anyone up for it? :)

Week 1

I made it through this week!!!! It was a big week, with school and training starting; lots of changes to get accustomed to!

Well, week one of training was...okay. My first day was biking, which was easy because it was only 30 minutes. Then came the running.....I thought I was going to give up this triathlon while on that first run. I guess I didn't run enough during the break because I am certainly feeling it.
About half way through the week after talking to my new home teacher (who has done a triathlon as well!) I decided to change training programs. This one gives me two days off a week and trains me to go above and beyond the times and distances I'll need for the race to help so that I will be able to do all three. I think the two days off will really be good! It's tiring! haha.

My first workout on the new program was 80 minutes on the bike. I went into the BYU training room on a Friday afternoon and WOW!!!! I never realized so many college students worked out on the weekends! I don't think we could have fit many more people in that room! It was PACKED! And they didn't have any upright bikes left so I was stuck in one of the lounging ones. When I finished, I couldn't sit down for about an hour because it felt like knives were sticking in my butt and hamstrings! I have never felt my muscles freak out so much! But the funny thing is, I'm not even sore today. I don't get it...

The swimming is getting easier. I got goggles and a swim cap this week, which have really proven helpful. I still think it's my weakest point, just because I'm so slow at it, but I'm working more on my endurance at the moment than on speed. I'd rather swim the whole way slowly than quickly to the middle and run out of steam. haha.

But tomorrow is another off day and the beginning of week 2! Only 19 more weeks to go! I know that sounds super far away, but I have a feeling it will be here sooner than I think! :)
