Keeping Perspective

It's so interesting to me how it is so easy to get caught up in the little everyday dramas and tasks and how if things seem to be going wrong, the world feels like it is going to end. Unfortunately, I allow myself to get into this thought process quite often, something I really need to work on. However, in this beautiful season of Easter, pondering on the Savior's atonement and the reason we are on this earth to begin with, none of those little things matter. Yes, they do matter in this life, but they won't in the next life, and that's what we're sent here to earth to work towards. A calming reminder is that God is in control, and everything is as it should be. He knows us, our circumstances, our goals, dreams, hopes, sorrows. He knows them all; and he knows what we need to grow to be the best we can be.

Here's a few things that I know I want in life, keeping perspective on the eternal scheme of things.
I want to be married here, in the beautiful Manti Temple, for time and all eternity.

I want one of these: my own family.

I want to help change the world (or even one person's life) for the better.

I want to be happy.

Really, when it gets down to it, that's all I want out of life. I know it might be an odd way of connecting it, but all of that is possible thanks to our Brother, who gave Himself for us. He suffered the ultimate pain, because He wanted us to be able to have all of these things. He wants us to be happy, to be loved, to have families. He wants us to come to Him, because through Him, anything can happen. I know that to be true. Happy Easter everyone! :)

Update

I know it's been a long time since my last training post. It's been kind of a roller coaster ride with it all. But I am so happy to say that I just finished my first week of the highest point of my training!!! I don't have to increase my times anymore! I maintain next week and then drop of for the 4th week, then it's back up to the peak, and then I begin tapering for my race. It's still over a month away, but it's finally coming up!!!!!! I cannot wait! :)

I've been trying to shake up my training a little bit because I've been getting bored (wouldn't you, after doing the same thing over and over for 3 months?), so I changed up the days, changed my locations as best that I could and went at different times. With swimming, there's only so much I can change since the BYU pool is only open to the public in the early mornings and late nights. But I was able to go running with Mak this week....and let me tell you, she runs a tough trail! Keeping up with her speed (and she was going slower because she's sick) was hard, but then she surprised me by leading me up a mile long hill! When I saw the hill I was sure I wouldn't be able to do it, but I guess the fact that I did run up the whole thing without stopping just shows how far I have come. :) My long bike ride this week was THE LONGEST 2 1/2 hours I've ever spent in my life. The weather has been pretty stupid all week, so I had to ride inside and there is nothing more boring than sitting on one of those bikes for 155 minutes. haha. I ran my 77 minutes today in the snow. When I went out it was only softly floating down, but by the time I reached my parent's neighborhood, it was like pouring snow. I think I must have had like 4 inches of ice on top of my head when I walked in the door. haha. But it was a good run. :)

Anyway, I'm just super excited that I've finally made it to this point. I'm on the countdown for the race!!! :)

Sometimes

Sometimes I feel awkward
Like everything I do and say is wrong
I don't mean for it to happen that way, I mean, my intentions are always good.
But sometimes, I wonder;
Did I miss that day in school when they taught how to act in society, be charming, flirty and sophisticated?
I must have. Perhaps that was a day I stayed home sick, unknowingly sleeping through the whole thing.
I can be awkward.
I can be weird.
I can be quirky.
I can be random.
I can be cheesy.
But I always care.
And I think that's what really matters.

While I Was Sleeping

Okay, so this happened awhile ago, but I'll post it for your entertainment.

So one night a couple weeks ago my friend had been trying to get a hold of me all day, but I had been at farewells and homecomings and such. So when I got home around 9:30, I sent her a text. However, only seconds after sending said text I fell completely asleep, like immediately into a R.E.M. cycle or something.

An hour later, my friend called me. I don't remember picking up the phone, but I remember being on the phone and I knew who it was. I told her that I couldn't talk because I had to set my alarm for every hour on the hour to wake up, as part of my triathlon training, of course. She later told me (because I didn't remember hearing her response) that she asked who said to do that and I simply said "someone important." Then I told her that I was sorry if I wasn't making any sense, for I'd already been asleep for an hour. Then she proceeded to say that I was drunk! Drunk! (What a friend right? jk B. :) ).

Anyway, that was the extent of our conversation. So note to all: if you call me after the sun goes down and I really don't make any sense, you probably caught me while I was sleeping. hehehe (totally cliche, I know, but I love it!)

Going Home

This weekend I finally went back down to Ephraim and visited my old friends and roommates! It was a much needed get-away, even though it was only for 24 hours. Kayla and I drove down together and it felt like I'd never left, like I was going home. And my roommates! I love them so much! And I've missed them way more than I realized! The three that were there all have boyfriends (and one fiancee) so I got to meet those boys, and I'm so happy for all of them! They are all so perfect for each other! :) We really had a blast though. We had muddy buddies, made dinner, got snow cremes!!! and then we stayed up until 3 am, later than I've stayed up this whole semester. haha. I was sad to leave, but I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to see them before school ends and we're all moved on. Good old Snow College! haha.

And Run

I have a new favorite song. It is quickly becoming my motto. (I know, I have a lot of mottos. haha)
"And Run" by He Is We
Listen to it here:

It's just great! :)
Listen, like, love. :)
Now, if you'll please excuse me, I've got to go and run! (Not literally, but like it says in the song, in case you didn't get that.)

Results! Results!

Well, the results are in. I went to the doctor on Monday and found out that I am Vitamin D deficient. So, I'm on a supplement, but here's to hoping that it will help solve the problem! :)

For training this week I decided to take it a little easier than pushing all the way. I just did the best that I could, but didn't want to push myself to exhaustion. I have my lower week next week and then hopefully after that I'll be all ready to go for the last 2 months of training. I'm almost at the height of my training times though. I'm almost there! :) Wahooo!!!!

I do have to say, over the past month or so, running has become my favorite part of training. I know, I never thought I'd say that either, but it's become so...I don't know, therapeutic in a way. When I go running, it's just me, my music and the road. And the wonderful thing about all this training is I have worked my body up to a point where I can just run and run, and I LOVE it! An hour of running now feels like half an hour used to.

I read a quote the other day, I don't remember who it was by, but it has sort of become my motto of the last week. "When life sometimes gets tough it's just an indication that your greatness is being tested. DON'T GIVE UP! Breathe and do something good for yourself. There is absolute joy on the other side. Also, don't forget to reach out and ask for help. You are worth it!" Ponder on that for a little bit- it's a good one. :)
